A surviror's Last tale

Hello again readership, Ea5e-95 reporting from North Seattle for OKIZOONEWS with this tragic story of hiphop’s demise. For years now, several “new school” rap artists have continued to confirm the death of the vivacious 31 year old sub-culture, named Hiphop. My colleagues and I at OKIZOONEWS are proud to relay that hiphop is not dead, but undead actually. In the late nineties, she was infected with a corporate-developed super virus which was being tested in record companies nationwide. Many successful rap acts were infected and tons fell to the clutches of the evil virus and haven’t been heard from since. Until now. A local Scientist at North Seattle Community College has discovered a mutation of the virus he calls Hipsteria. Several outbreaks of the mutated virus have been reported by military personnel. In fact, we have an exclusive clip of the survivor’s last audio log entry before he was eaten alive by the infected. Warning, the contents of this audio clip is extremely graphic, and may not be suitable for kids or young adults.

Happy Zoo Year Readership, hope everyone’s New Year has started off well. I took a brief hiatus from the internet to focus on some New Years resolutions I’m making. However just like today’s Cinema Saturday series I have returned. You know how this goes down every Saturday we post up some dope videos as a part of OkiZoo TV. Hope you all have enjoyed some of our favorite Anime series, documentary’s, and other videos. Sit back and relax and enjoy yourself, and check us out on Monday for The Boomin’ System.

Sidenote: Check out the song at the end of the episode. Many of you who know our music might here the sample for one of OkiZoo’s first songs.

Today’s Cinema Saturday features the epic Anime Series: Lupin the 3rd

Lupin the 3rd, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kazuhiko Kato under the pen name of Monkey Punch. The story follows the adventures of a gang of thieves led by Arsène Lupin III, the grandson of Arsène Lupin, the gentleman thief of Maurice Leblanc’s series of novels. Lupin and his gang travel throughout the world to steal treasures and escape from the law.

Arsène Lupin III, the grandson of the fictional gentleman thief, Arsène Lupin, is considered the world’s greatest thief, known for announcing his intentions to steal valuable objects by sending a calling card to the owners of his desired items. His right-hand man and closest ally is Daisuke Jigen, an expert marksman who can accurately shoot a target in 0.3 seconds. Although Lupin and Jigen frequently work as a two-man team, they are often joined by Goemon Ishikawa XIII, a master swordsman whose sword can cut anything, or Fujiko Mine, a femme fatale and Lupin’s love interest. Although Fujiko usually works together with the others, she occasionally exploits Lupin’s interest in her to steal a treasure for herself. Lupin and his gang are constantly chased by Inspector Koichi Zenigata of the ICPO, who has made it his life’s work to arrest them, chasing Lupin across the globe. On the rare occasions he catches Lupin, Zenigata secretly hopes Lupin will escape so he can continue to chase him. Regardless of whether Lupin and his followers succeed or fail, they are always looking for the next heist.

So now that the weekend is over, and it’s Monday again… you probably reading this while you at your desk at work, bored. Or you’re probably in school reading this on your phone, bored…

WELL GET UP!!! (c) K-OS …Let’s start this week off right with…

The Boomin’ System
Boomin-system

1. Jesse Boykins III ft Keelay & The Park – Itis Remix
You know after you’ve had a good meal, you start to feel a little sleepy? You start to feel as though your body won’t move, and that all is right w/ the world in that moment when you sleep. Well we call that “The Itis”… Jesse Boykins III took that term and applied it to a woman in this song for his album: The Beauty Created. (fellas buy this record for your girl, trust me) Keelay & The Park; musicians from The Bay Area, took it upon themselves to do a remix to this song and I must say… Job well done.

2. Statik Selektah ft. Bahamadia – Do What I Believe
Fuck everyone trying to tell you how to live YOUR life. Do what YOU believe, and let the world catch on. This is why Bahamadia is the iLLest, and she from the iLLest city; Philadelphia. Play this when you feel like you got the world against you, and you need some motivation to stand up on your own two feet and make things happen. Statik Selektah’s “The Pre-Game EP” will be in stores soon, and this is the first single.

3. Rob Viktum ft Donwill & Elucid – Barakaran
As soon as the beat comes on… You already know this a front to end head nod song. Big ups to the homey Donwill of Tanya Morgan. He really been putting in work, and it shows w/ this record. This track is featured on Rob Viktum featuring Donwill & Friends record entitled ‘Aight, New Drink’ it was a free download a few months ago, but I already know it went over everyone’s head. Leave a comment if you want the whole album…

4. Flying Lotus – Litermeter
I think I’m going to have to see the doctor, my neck feels like it is broken (c) Flying Lotus… lol If you got a copy of July Heat, you already know what it is. If you didn’t, don’t worry about it you will UNDERSTAND once you press play on this amazing instrumental from Flying Lotus.

If you don’t know who Flying Lotus is… o_0 well then damn, you need to smack yourself and then go to www.google.com and search his name, LOL

5. BK-One ft Black Thought – Philly Boy
Brazilian rhythms & Black Thought of The Legendary Roots Crew, could you ask for more than that?
I don’t think so… sit back and enjoy yo’self!!! This is from BK-One’s critically acclaimed new album ‘Radio do Canibal’, this is one of my favorite tracks from that album but it’s the entire record is a work of art. Brilliant themes, fantastic music, and just feel good dance rhythm you need this in your life.

6. Kenzo Digital ft Raekwon, Nas, & Ghostface – Verbal Intercourse Pt. II
Kenzo Digital is the maker of the audio masterpiece known as “City of God’s Son” (check later in the week for more info on this audio movie from Kenzo Digital) Close your eyes and picture the imagery in each emcee’s words.

7. Strange Fruit Project – Crash
Same hook, same song… Need to change the station.
that’s the perfect line that describes major radio nowadays, thank you for tuning in to the real over here at OkiZoo. This song is on Strange Fruit’s lateset EP entitled M.A.S.K. (making art sound kool) and it’s out right now. You can download the EP right here –> Strange Fruit Project – M.A.S.K.

8. Kidz In The Hall ft Marsha Ambrosius – All Night (Make Up Sex)
Ooh baby baby, ooh you drive me crazy. I don’t want to fight, I want to love you all night long…

If you would have said that in the first place we wouldn’t be fighting, lol. I swear sometimes when you in a relationship you argue over dumb shit just so you can have that earth shattering make up sex. This new track from Kidz In The Hall & Marsha from Floetry gets right to the point, and I like it like that.

9. Goapele – Milk & Honey
I promised my woman I’d put Goapele on The Boomin’ System, she loves this song. I think that’s enough of an explanation/description of what you all are in for. My girl likes it :0p lol, you will too. Play this when you on the couch cuddled up w/ your significant other. The beat bangs, and Goapele’s angelic vocal chords do too. Just lay back, relax and let her blow your mind…

10. Mayer Hawthorne & Now On – Active Balanced (Terry Cole Remix)
Staying focused, no doubt I’ll be Balanced. All over tracks it’s a balancing act…

Dope verses from each emcee, smooth vocals to ease your mind after a rough day from Mayer Hawthorne, and an iLL instrumental from Terry Cole for Othello & DJ Vajra’s latest record. Great song, great playlist, hope you enjoyed this as much as we did over here at OkiZoo. See ya’ll next week for Vol. 4 of The Boomin’ System.

Author: EL3G | Filed under: OkiZoo Blog

What’s good readership,

I first want to thank all of the good people who have left comments on the blog. The site traffic has really picked up and I think that’s mostly due to word of mouth. So thank you for being a part of this journey that OkiZoo is on. Keep riding w/ us…

This is a new segment that we’ll probably do a couple times a month. In this life we lead we run into amazing people every day. So you already know “Real Recognizes Real” so check out the featured artist interview for today’s post:

Francesca L. aka JayStayPlayed”

Describe Hip Hop in one word, then explain your word choice.

Love. Hip Hop, in it’s truest, purest, and greatest form is what, if love had a sound, it would sound like. Like, how you can see love in the interaction between a parent and child, or how you can feel love when someone you are mad crazy about touches you in that way that makes you feel like you could die right then and be cool with it. Hip Hop is what love sounds like, the early lyrics that Nas delivered, J Dilla instrumentals, crazy ass DOOM rhymes, 14KT’s whole sound, It’s the audible expression of love

You can read the full interview here –> Francesca L. Thinks Your Taste In Music Sucks!

Stay tuned over the next few months to read interviews from Ta-Ku & Theron Noble, Big Lo Hip Hop, Gavin of JusLikeMusic.com, DJ Daikatamy & The Sol Precision Crew, Mikey McFly, and many more!

Real Recognize Real

Author: EL3G | Filed under: OkiZoo Blog

In the middle of 2007 was the first time I had ever heard the sounds of Perth, Australia’s Reggie “Ta-ku” Mathews production. The first thing I though was, WOW this dude really digs. I heard so many plush vintage sounds through his work. The drums were hard, the chops were brilliant, the bass was booming. I immediately knew he had what it took to go very far with his music. In a hip hop industry that is very fickle nowadays, he also proved to be a genuine person. OkiZoo has since then collaborated on various projects such as his Different Spaces LP which you will be hearing on blog.okizoo.com in the near future. Ta-ku has attended the prestigious and exclusive Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona, Spain in 2008 and taken home the crown in The Speak Easy Beat Down Battle in Perth for 2 years in a row. Perhaps the culmination of how fond we were for Ta-ku and his skills came from the admiration of OkiZoo’s own Theron Noble aka DJ Jam On. Theron has a very deep catalog of old soul records that he transfers from vinyl to his computer. While enlisted in the US Marine Corps (Semper Fi till we die) stationed in Iraq, Theron began sending samples to Ta-Ku and one by one Ta-Ku would weave his magic until it was a new creation. Thus THE WERAQ BEATAPE was born. A collaboration between Ta-ku’s recording home Paper Chain Records, OkiZoo, and distributed locally in Perth Australia by Highs and Lows boutique, this instrumental beat odyssey takes a “J Dilla – Donuts”  type direction where the soul of the sample is left intact and the drums are used as a vehicle to power the new chops. This collection of instrumentals are soulful from front to back. So download it here and get ready to enjoy this 48 minutes of Ta-ku beats!!!

If you like what you see/hear then please leave us a comment and let us know that we’re on the right track.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I want to start off w/ giving some thanks to the readers of the blog for all of their support in spreading the word. We really appreciate the love you all have been sending our way, and now w/out any further delay…

OkiZoo Presents: The Boomin’ System
Boomin-system

1. Buff 1 – The Shift (prod by 14KT)
The future is now, and Athletic Mic League members Buff1 & 14KT are leading the way. I featured 14KT on the blog before, I told ya’ll this dude was serious w/ the production. He continues to bring the heat as Buff1 goes bananas on the beat. Epic!

2. Royce Da 5′9″ – Something 2 Ride 2 (Feat. Phonte)
This is a little something to ride to, kick back and just catch a vibe to. Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock somewhere you should know that Street Hop is in stores now, and this is one of its standout tracks. No, Phonte isn’t rapping on this one. He is bringing you that trademark soulful sanging tho.

3. Slum Village – Dope Man
RIP J Dilla, RIP Baatin 2 of the illest. Slum Village is back on the scene, this is a promo leak for their brand new Album Villa Manifesto. For those of you that didn’t know Fantastic Vol 2 is being re-released in 2010 w/ several unreleased tracks & the original production how J Dilla wanted it to be. Check out
The Find Magazine for more info

4. A.R.M. – Heaven Only Knows (Feat. Brother Ali)
Heaven only knows the pain in my eyes. Rain and the snow, the stress, and hard times. Heaven Only Knows I Hustle For My Shine! A.R.M. stands for ‘African Rebel Movement’ and is comprised of Ghanaian emcees M.anifest & Krukid, as well as Seattle-born, Brooklyn-based producer Budo. This is my favorite track right now, it’s uplifting, soulful, honest, and just a dope ass track from some real Hip Hop heads. Enjoy!

5. Kenichiro Nishihara – Consider My Love (Feat. Pismo)
Some fresh Japanese Hip Hop from Kenichiro Nishihara. This song is featured on his album Humming Jazz, and I most definitely recommend you all check this cat out. As is common w/ Japanese Hip Hop the beat has a soulful, jazzy melody to it. Pismo is excellent behind the mic w/ his raw flow and clear delivery. I guarantee that you’ll be intoxicated by this song as soon as you hear the chorus. Kampai!

6. Muneshine – Bon Jour (Instrumental)
Canada’s Muneshine, focusing mostly on jazz, soul and funk influences, for his latest Instrumental album ‘A Walk In The Park’ gives you a sound reminiscent of BBE”s early “Beat Generation” series… Yo word life, I’m going to record something over this track. It’s just too good to leave alone.

7. J-Rocc – Secondhand Sureshots (Instrumental)
If you missed the post I made about Stonesthrow x Dublab’s documentary on beat making check it out below. This is J Rocc’s contribution to the documentary, you hear a snippet of it on the end of the trailer for the Secondhand Sureshots documentary. This is an amazing piece of music, very impressive.

8. Mayer Hawthorne – The iLLs
I dedicate this song to any of you reading this that had a bad day today. You know the ills of the world, they can get you down… but then we get BACK UP! I’ve been a fan of Mayer Hawthorne ever since I saw that heart shaped vinyl of his on youtube. He’s got that old school northern soul sound, w/ a little jazz, and a lot of funk. You can’t go wrong w/ this guy.

9. Diamond District – Make it Clear
The DMV trio (DC, Maryland, Virginia) of Oddisee, XO and YU have made one bangin boom bap album called “In the Ruff”. This jam is to make it clear that the vintage 90’s Golden Era sound is still alive. The drums on this one KNOCK thanks to Oddisee’s
stellar production.

10. Shad – I Don’t Like To
YO! I don’t really like to but um, I put the smack down like it’s rehab. Make sure that there’s no relapse for these cats. Ya’ll cowards couldn’t rap this dope w/ a zig zag, WORD! The Old Prince is in the house!!! Canadian emcee Shad puts his wit on display over this smooth but rough banger off his “The Old Prince” ablum. This song BANGS!!!

Happy Thanksgiving Readership! ;)
