The much anticipated record release from OkiZoo’s DJ Alf is here! I received an email from Alf the other day and he had this to say about the record;

FINALLY! My latest album that happens to be my first album through the Hip Hop Slam label has arrived. It has been roughly a whole year since I first started working on this album. I believe the first song I worked on was “One More Drink” featuring Dunn-D from the OkiZoo Crew. I just like to give a shout and thanks to all those who have contributed something to my album. Thanks to all the musicians I have met over the years which have been a BIG inspiration in my journey through my musical career. You can purchase the album through Itunes U.S., UK, Canada, and Japan. If you would like to order a CD copy of the album, it will be available through this site (labinsomnia.com) and soon through Hip Hop Slam.

I can’t wait to get my own my copy. Get your copy of ”This way or That Way” through DJ Alf’s website Lab Insomnia. Get ready for turtablism at it’s finest!!! Laterzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!

Big Lo - The Plague

Big Lo - The Plague

Now let me introduce you to one of OkiZoo’s extended family members. Florida emcee/producer extraordinaire Big Lo. Big Lo and Dunn-D of OkiZoohave been collaborating on a number of new OkiZoo projects, but Big Lo has released a brand new album of his own entitled: The Plague

Big Lo’s “The Plague” was entirely produced using an MPC 2000xl, Korg Triton and turntables and features guest appearances from Beretta 9 of Killarmy, Tonedeff, G.O.D. of Pitch Black, Inferno, Tommy 2 Face, and R.E.A.L.I.T.Y. The motto is No Pro-Tools, No Autotune… Just Hip-Hop!

The homie Big Lo just celebrated a birthday on Oct 9th so all you lovers of good hip hop music go out and support this record. You can preview this full length album at Big Lo’s website Big Lo Hip Hop under the music section and you can purchase the album on CD Baby right now!!

Stay tuned to the blog because over the next few weeks we’ll have some brand new releases from

Photosynthesis 2.0

The OkiZoo crew was recently invited to perform at the 2nd annual Photosynthesis music fetival in Trout Lake Washington. This 4 day festival (yes 4 days, be prepared to camp) is a gathering of talent within the worlds of Electronica, Techno, Drum N Bass, Hip Hop and Turntableism. More than just a party, the Photosynthesis Festival also hosted workshops, classes and discussions on the topics of permaculture, renewable energy, water conservation, holistic healing, waste reduction, yoga and wild crafting.  Lots of artists painted live throughout the festival and showcased their gallery pieces. Acts such as Amon Tobin, Daedelus, and Kid Koala headlined the bill this year. Armed with his Flip Cam DJ Alpha decided to take in some Seattle culture. After that, he gets his reporter on and got the peoples take on this on the verge festival. Assisted by Nations they give us a quick tour of Photo and what goes on.

Dj Alpha

OkiZoo and Hip Hop Slam’s DJ Alpha has been deep inside his Lab Insomnia studios for the last year creating  his turntablist debut album “This way or That way”, a magnum opus of his technical ability to use the power of the record and the turntable to create music. This promises to be a bizare journey from beginning to end featuring a few special guests including fellows DJ’s like Dust One, Dawgisht, and Jimmy Penguin . It also features guest emcees, Nations and Dunn-D of  OkiZoo and Skahlah of  The Life Penciled Crew. Set for a fall release, Alf is ready to show us all why the DJ is essentially the backbone of music.  California’s Amoeba Music recently interviewed Alf to find out how he became a turntablist, about his time in Okinawa Japan, and what “This way or That Way” is all about.
