Vibes 3 Breaks Bar is the Best in Patpong

Majic in the Making

Vibes Silom Hip Hop Party at Breaks BarAnother great party at Breaks Bar. Breaks Bar is by far the best club in Silom area and still holding down the underground scene. Headz looking for a real sound to groove too and an escape from the repetitive pop music in Bangkok have found sanctuary at this small club tucked back in the Sois of Patpong. Alex stepped out and did an abstract piece while sippin down some sake. Trix One and Jago on the mic pumped up the crowd while DJ IK ripped the new sounds outta the UK. Jonesy came on the mic a little later in the night representing for Bangkok Massive Sound. Everyone was tore up from the floor up, and we had to carry people out – not to mention any names JIP! Unfortunately, pictures were sabotaged and not available. Finally we would like to give a special big up to Torey, the newest and FIRST Okizoo model outta Thailand who is featured on this flyer (see below - you can’t miss it). Her sex appeal I am sure was partly due to the success of the night; hypnotizing the men into Breaks Bar for the dopest hip hop and dub reggae party going down in Thailand!

Feed The Worms Japanese Anime Toy

This lovely Japanese toy is a fine example of Japan’s abstract and lewd creativity. This anime angle doll has seemed to have fallen from the heavens and taken on the dark side. Despite her indulgence in sin, she seems to be enjoying herself and attending to all of her guest. These worms are not wasting time and getting right down to business. I haven’t figured out the deeper overall meaning of this anime toy. If you can crack the mystery that this toy holds within, be sure to share your thoughts with us.

Modern Art Exhibition at Central World Trade

Central World Trade Project Zero Art Exhibition in Siam Chit Lom

Okizoo’s own, Alex, hosted a large graffiti art exhibition over the weekend outside Central World Trade in the Siam/Chit Lom Commercial District of Bangkok. Project Zero was presented on the motto “Learning Arts Starts From ZERO” and was designed to be a festival to celebrate the art and culture by Office of Knowledge Management and Development (OKMD). Albert Einstein once said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” From past to present, the new bodies of knowledge and innovation, introduced to that of countless human inventions, were all created from pure imagination.

For this reason, the Office of Knowledge Management and Development has established the festival of arts and culture under the name of project ZERO, in order to create opportunities for the public, especially the youth, to experience new things that may trigger their minds, and appetite for imagination within the various fields of art.

Scientific data reveals that human produces new brain cells each time they experience and learn something new. Sadly, people tend not to explore venture outside of the proverbial box and explore new paradigm. Project “ZERO” encouraged visitors to open their mind and soul to new perspectives and imaginations, that differed from what most had experienced before.

Likewise, pertaining to Buddhism, “ZERO” can be interpreted as the “emptiness” that may well lead to enlightenment”. Therefore, Project “ZERO” was not only considered as an arts and cultural event, but also as a mind and soul awakening event.

Central World Trade Center

Central World Trade Project Zero Art Exhibition in Siam Chit LomCentral World is a large shopping mall and office complex in Bangkok owned by the Central Group. In 2006, after three years of design and renovation, the expanded, 550,000-square-meter mall was opened, topping its nearby rival Siam Paragon in terms of size. The mall is the largest shopping center in Southeast Asia and larger than Hong Kong’s Ocean Terminal. Originally called the World Trade Center, the eight-story mall was opened in 1990. The Central Group acquired the property in 2002 from the Wang Petchaboon group and soon thereafter renamed it Central World Plaza and in 2005 rechristened it Central World. It is on Crown Property Bureau land. In its acquisition, the Central Group’s property development arm, Central Pattana Plc, secured a new 30-year lease on the site.

Anticipating the opening of the luxury Siam Paragon, Central Pattana started massive renovations and expansion on the site in 2003. The original mall structure was 300,000 square meters. The expansion plans boosted that to 550,000 square meters. Though the work hadn’t yet been completed, Central held an official opening of the renovated complex on July 21, 2006, and it was expected to be fully operational by October 2006. As of May 2007 the mall has fully opened but some premises in parts of the upper floors remain yet vacant. Major exterior construction is ongoing on the hotel situated in the northwest corner of the mall and the extension floors to the Zen department store in southeast corner.

The renovated complex aims to attract 150,000 customers per day, purchasing more than 7 billion baht annually. It is marketing itself as a upper class shopping destination, opposed to the middle class-marketed Siam Paragon. Further plans call for a convention center and hotel at the site.

CentralWorld is located in Pathum Wan district at the Ratchaprasong Intersection in one of Bangkok’s busiest shopping and tourism districts. The Gaysorn shopping center and Big C Ratchadamri are opposite CentralWorld on Ratchadamri Road, as is the Erawan Shrine. Amarin Plaza and the Central Chit Lom department store are nearby, as are Siam Paragon, Siam Center, MBK Center, Platinum Fashion Mall and Pantip Plaza.

Reverse Graffiti Art with Soap NOT Spray Paint

Hitting the streets of England, a new form of Graffiti is baffling authorities. Instead of adding-on to make a mark, graffiti artists are taking off. By cleaning the walls and removing grime and exposing the natural wall, graffiti artist are bypassing the lay by not vandalizing but by cleaning. However, authorities are calling it “selective cleaning” and trying to draft up laws that make selective cleaning a crime. This new form of graffiti is done by cleaning dirt from sidewalks and tunnels — sometimes for money when the images are used as advertising. But some authorities are still calling it vandalism. Labeled as a reverse-graffiti artist, street art is transitioning to cleaning the grime and dirt off surfaces that they would once be happy to spray.

The tools are simple: a shoe brush, some water (cleaning solvent helps but that might be considered a chemical that could be punishable) and good ol’ elbow grease. Check out the pics below of some reverse graffiti.

Pictures of reverse graffiti, art made by selectively cleaning an area:

Moose, whose real name is Paul Curtis said that he got the idea when he saw that people had written their names with their fingers on dirty tunnel walls in his hometown of Leeds. Moose does some freehand drawing, but also uses the grid from wall tiles to create perfect shapes and letters.

British authorities aren’t sure what to make of the artist who is creating graffiti by cleaning the grime of urban life. The Leeds City Council has been considering what to do with Moose. “I’m waiting for the kind of Monty Python court case where exhibit A is a pot of cleaning fluid and exhibit B is a pair of my old socks,” he jokes.

JJ Mall at Chatuchak Weekend Market

Sunday was the grand opening of the long awaited and much needed JJ Mall. JJ Mall offers the transition for the world famous outdoor JJ Market to the control environment of modern air conditioning. Chatuchak was infamous for its crowded narrow and hot stalls rigged together by plastic tarps and umbrellas. Now is moving indoors for more convenience and accommodate all the visitors that love to haggle and get cheap cheap prices on just about anything you can imagine. The outdoor market will still be around until they decide to demolish, well take apart that area. The value of the area just went up and low budget squatters will soon be out.

Anyways to kick off the grand opening of the new mall, a major radio station and music network decide to host a t-shirt festival for indie, unique, and rare shops to show off the latest fashion and designs with major pop singers hosting a concert. Only 50 baht to enter, that’s about a buck, the festival was a huge hit to the students and underground artist. The event drew over 10,000 ticket buyers and much more if you include the ones that snuck in, waited outside, staff and so on. The place was a sea of people craving a piece of the latest fashions and newest designs.

Trix One was the host DJ for Preduce, Alex and Chu. Droppin the latest in underground hip-hop, Trix One fed the locals’ urge for graffiti and hip-hop apparel.

JJ Mall at Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok Thailand

For those of you who are not familiar with JJ, hear is a quick history and blurb on it:

Chatuchak weekend market in Bangkok Thailand is the largest market in Thailand, and largest of the world. Frequently called J.J. or Jatujak, it covers over 35 acres (1.13 km²) and contains upwards of 15,000 stalls. It is estimated that the market receives between 200,000 and 300,000 visitors each day. Most stalls only open on Saturdays and Sundays hence the name “Weekend Market”.

The market offers a wide variety of products including household items, clothing, Thai handicrafts, religious artifacts, collectibles, foods, and live animals.

Chatuchak Market owes its origin to Field Marshal Plaek Phibulsongkram, the late prime minister of Thailand (1938-1944, 1948-1957), who came up with the idea of setting up a flea market in every town. As a result, the first flea market in Bangkok was held at Sanam Luang and was called Sanam Luang flea Market. However, there was time when the place was needed for other special functions and the flea market was then relocated to Saranrom Palace and settled there for 8 years. After that, it was moved again to Sanam Chai. But because of the limited space, it had to be moved back to Sanam Luang. In the same year, the government issued a policy to turn Sanam Luang into a public park for citizens of Bangkok and to be the venue to celebrate 200-year-anniversary of Bangkok, which would be held in 1982. Thus, it was decided that the flea market would be held at the Phahonyothin area from then on and it is later called Chatuchak Market after the nearby park under the same name.
